Strictly speaking, "healthy" office chairs are not actually regarded as "beautiful" by the users. For a long time, ergonomic functionality and successful design were considered as flagrant contradiction among public opinion. Currently opinions are changing as radically as the facts themselves. Current opinion says: The more ergonomic - the more beautiful!
This is not least a consequence of years of unflagging Dauphin efforts concerning seating furniture for the office, which quite emphatically stress priority on the physical demands of office workers. However, with "HighWay" Dauphin is also intensively paying attention to their psyche. Because "Highway" is up-to-date - indeed, futuristic, attractive, internationally intelligible, optically exciting, and thus more or less directly stimulates its owner.
Backbone with a programme
The expert responsible for the creative spirit of adventure is none other than the multiple award winning designer Martin Ballendat. With "HighWay", Ballendat is devoting his attention to the technically feasible in terms of outward perspective, and shows how the concept functions - the spine becomes the supporting "pillar" - and thus all of the chair's important adjustment functions are integrated there.
This design feature - also called the "spinal or operational line" - contains a plastic frame covered with a netting, whereby the "arms" invitingly and thoughtfully "embrace" the user: The feeling of sitting is comfortable, and allows flexible movements - in conjunction with the specially constructed synchronous mechanics, which even include utilisation of the so-called "large opening angle". Its 132 degrees even facilitates the brief "office nap", which is becoming more and more socially acceptable, and which is equally described by ergonomists and medical practitioners as beneficial "power-napping" for workers (as well as the firm).
The characteristic spinal line spurs one to immediately think of the human spinal column. Moreover, it drastically points out that "HighWay" concerns the well-being of office workers.
Ergonomics is the same as design
"HighWay" quite openly presents its ergonomic-functional capabilities. Ergonomics is not coyly applied and installed, but rather presented in pure fashion, as the endeavours concerning health are exclusively acknowledged today. And that's why the power napping mechanics is also presented in entirely exposed fashion; it makes a virtue of necessity, and is demonstratively shown as a visible component. This means that the gas-activated spring mechanism is also not pretentiously covered by a plastic shroud.
Logically speaking, the control lever and control keys - such as the hand wheel for lateral spring resistance adjustment or the lordotic adjustment - are included in the open design concept. Featured in subdued black, they stress not only welcomed colour accents, but at the same time accentuate all important chair functions in a user-friendly capacity.
This also means that a variety of ergonomically meaningful "fine points" are simply a must with ergo-designed seating furniture. The package is varied: A mechanical realisation is also among the features. Possibilities for adjusting the sliding seat, the seating inclination, the lumbar support in height and depth, the headrest in height and inclination. And also the lateral spring resistance adjustment, i.e. the regulation of backrest counter pressure is possible while sitting, with the help of a crank. And this even includes multifunctional armrests in the independent "HighWay" design.
